Baseball Spring Break Update: McGuggart Registers Walk-Off Home Run

BASEBALL SCHEDULE/RESULTS
DAVENPORT, Fla. | The FSC baseball team wrapped up play at the RussMatt Invitational in Davenport, Florida and earned two more wins, highlighted by a walk-off home run from junior second baseman Chris McGuggart (Bethpage, N.Y.) on Thursday. The Rams finished the trip 5-2 and are now 6-6 overall in 2025.

Wednesday, March 19

Farmingdale State took on Wooster (Ohio) College on Wednesday and earned a 6-4 come-from-behind victory.

FSC jumped in front with three runs in the bottom of the first inning, with junior outfielder Richie Heyder (Holbrook, N.Y.) registering a long home run over the right field wall.

The Fighting Scots responded with four runs in the top of the second, ending Farmingdale State's 21-inning scoreless streak, as they went up 4-3.

The Rams knotted the game in the fourth after McGuggart doubled and scored on a ground out by Justin DiMartino (Bethpage, N.Y.).

Farmingdale State took the lead in the fifth as Heyder brought home a run on a fielder's choice.

In the seventh, Wooster loaded the bases with only one out. Senior pitcher Johnny Dougherty (Kings Park, N.Y.) entered and forced a missed suicide squeeze and a strike out to escape the jam.

Dougherty (Sv, 1, 2.2 IP, 4 SO) pitched perfect eighth and ninth innings to shut the door and secure FSC's 6-4 victory.

McGuggart led the way with three hits, two doubles, one RBI and two runs scored, while Heyder produced three runs batted in.

Thursday, March 20

Farmingdale State took on Salem State University on Thursday in a 7-inning doubleheader and earned a split. The Rams lost game one, 14-9, but earned a 6-5 win in the second behind McGuggart's heroics.

Tied 3-3 in the second inning of game one, FSC sophomore outfielder Ryan Tam (Wantagh, N.Y.) registered a two-out, bases-clearing triple to take a 6-3 advantage.

In the fourth, the Rams used RBI's by Tyler Diez (Levittown, N.Y.), Jordan Lambert (Plainview, N.Y.) and Aiden Mehmel (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) to go up, 9-5, but the Vikings responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning and four more in the fifth as they went on for the 14-9 victory.

In game two, the Rams used a four-run first inning, including a two-run single by junior catcher Ryan Plocker (Dix Hills, N.Y.), to jump in front.

FSC added a run in the third on another Plocker base hit to take an early 5-0 edge.

Salem State used a three-run home run in the fourth and a two-run double in the sixth to quickly tie the game at 5-5.

After sophomore pitcher Dennis Kelly (North Babylon, N.Y. - W, 2-0) tossed a 1-2-3 top of the seventh, McGuggart ended a nine-pitch at-bat with a walk-off home run over the left field fence to send the Rams home with the 6-5 win.

The FSC baseball team will next host John Jay on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. before Skyline Conference play kicks off on Sunday, March 30th against Mount Saint Vincent at noon.
