Career-High 25 From Conroy Lifts Men's Basketball Over Sarah Lawrence, Into Tie Atop Skyline Standings

Farmingdale State 77, Sarah Lawrence 59
BRONXVILLE, N.Y. | Junior guard Sean Conroy (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored 15 of his career-high 25 points over the final nine minutes Wednesday night for the Farmingdale State College men's basketball team, which notched its third-straight win with a 77-59 triumph at Sarah Lawrence College to move into a four-way tie atop the Skyline Conference standings.

The visiting Rams (12-8) and the Gryphons (13-7) both sit at 9-2 in conference action, as do FSC's Black Division counterpart Maritime College, and SLC's Gold Division rival Yeshiva University.

Farmingdale State led 35-29 at halftime and notched the first bucket of the second half on a lay-in by Conroy 40 seconds in, before SLC chipped away and went ahead 44-43 on a 3-pointer with 14:15 on the clock. After Rams sophomore forward Liam Buckley (Manhasset, N.Y.) hit a pair of free throws two possessions later, the Gryphons responded with another long-range effort to go back in front at the 13:20 mark, 47-45. FSC scored the next five points to go ahead for good, with Sarah Lawrence cutting its deficit to 52-50 on a free throw with 9:04 left.

From there, Conroy scored eight points as part of a 10-0 spread by the visitors go take control of the contest. He buried a wide open 3-pointer from the right wing at 8:48, and followed a pair of free throws from senior point guard Jevon Santos (Elmont, N.Y.) with a pull-up jumper and a right-wing trey, upping the FSC advantage to 62-52 with 6:44 to play.

The Gryphons temporarily stopped the run with a 3-pointer in their next trip down the floor, before a 9-0 spurt by the Rams put the game out of reach. Sophomore post Kentrell Evans (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded an old-fashioned 3-point play on a put-back layup at 5:53, before adding a bucket in traffic 50 seconds later. The teams remained scoreless for the next two minutes before Santos drove the lane for a right-handed lay-in with 3:02 remaining, with Conroy putting the nail in the coffin with back-to-back 3-pointers inside the final two minutes of action.

Conroy, who scored 22 points last Saturday versus Mount Saint Vincent, finished the night 10-of-13 from the field, including a 5-of-6 display beyond the 3-point arc. Santos had a 7-of-10 night shooting en route to 17 points and a game-high five assists, while Evans ended with nine points and seven boards. Freshman guard James Notias (Manhasset, N.Y.) made all four of his shots off the bench for an eight-point outing for FSC, which scored 13 fast-break points and converted 17 Gryphons turnovers into 22 points in transition.

Farmingdale State and Maritime will face off Saturday afternoon (Feb. 8) at 1 at FSC's Walter A. Lynch Sports Center, with the Rams holding Alumni Day festivities prior to the contest.
