Men's Lacrosse Races Past Russell Sage for First Win of Season

Farmingdale State 19, Russell Sage 4
ALBANY, N.Y. | Senior attacker Andrew Giovinco (Syosset, N.Y.) scored five goals and one assist Wednesday afternoon for the Farmingdale State College men's lacrosse team, which jumped out to a 9-1 halftime lead on its way to a 19-4 victory at Russell Sage College.

Fellow senior attacker Thomas Stock (Selden, N.Y.) bagged four goals and one assist for the Rams (1-2), who outshot the hosts by a 56-25 margin, while sophomore Adam Giovinco (Syosset, N.Y.) registered his second-straight hat trick.

Andrew Giovinco, junior Kamryn Gill (Riverhead, N.Y.) and Stock all scored inside the first 5:18 of the game against the Gators (0-1), with Adam Giovinco notching goals at 4:45 and 3:35 to propel the visitors to a 5-0 lead after one period of play.

The second quarter was more of the same for FSC, with Andrew Giovinco scoring three times (twice off assists from his brother, Adam) and Gill (three assists) once to increase the green and white's lead to 9-1 at halftime.

Stock scored three times inside a 7-0 third period for the Rams, who received goals from nine different players on the afternoon – including single tallies from seniors Kyle Kolano (Babylon, N.Y.) and Tyler Kollar (Bellport, N.Y.), juniors Patrick McDonough (Mineola, N.Y.) and Amir Slaughter (North Babylon, N.Y.), and sophomore Cole Longo (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.).

Senior FSC goalkeeper Dan Erler (Smithtown, N.Y.) made five saves in his 38-plus minutes in cage, and was one of four Rams netminders to see game action behind a defense that forced 26 turnovers by Russell Sage.

Farmingdale State opens its home slate on Saturday (March 1), when it welcomes the Hawks of Hartwick College for a noontime face-off.
