Michael Notias (Manhasset, N.Y.) scored 29 points to lead the top-seeded Farmingdale State men's basketball team to an 87-64 Quarterfinal victory over the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Tuesday evening. The Rams have advanced to Thursday's Semifinal round of the Skyline Conference Championship and will play host to fourth-seeded Maritime at 7:00 p.m.
FSC (17-9) led 21-20 midway through the first half and used a pair of
Kentrell Evans (Brooklyn, N.Y.) free-throws and a layup by
Liam Buckley (Manhasset, N.Y.) to take a five-point lead.
After a USMMA (10-16) basket, a layup by senior forward
Hamdel Mohammed (Bronx, N.Y.) followed by seven Notias points put the Rams in front by 12, 34-22.
Farmingdale State was up by 14, 43-29, at the break behind 19 first-half points from Notias.
FSC quickly extended their lead to 24, scoring the first 10 points of the second half, to take a 53-29 advantage.
Merchant Marine cut the gap to 15, but a 10-2 run by the Rams, capped off by a
Robbie Siechen (Syracuse, N.Y.) 3-pointer, put them ahead 63-40 with 11:29 remaining.
Farmingdale State led by as many as 31 down the stretch as they rolled to the 87-64 victory.
Notias shot 10-for-14 from the field and 5-for-8 from behind the arc en route to his game-high 29 points. He is averaging 24.8 points per game over the last four outings. Siechen was a perfect 5-for-5 from 3-point range and finished with a career-high 15 points. Junior guard
Sean Conroy (Staten Island, N.Y.) tallied 11 points, seven rebounds and three assists, while senior guard
Jevon Santos (Elmont, N.Y.) recorded six points, eight assists and career-high six steals (seventh all-time). Buckley (seven rebounds) and Evans (six rebounds) chipped in with six points apiece.
