Men's Lacrosse Falls in Overtime Battle at Division II Lynn

Lynn - 10, Farmingdale State - 9 (F/OT)
BOCA RATON, FL | The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team opened their 2025 season with a hard-fought 10-9 overtime loss on the road at Division II opponent Lynn University on Friday evening. The Rams rallied with two fourth-quarter goals to force extra time, but the Fighting Knights registered the game-winner just 50 seconds into the overtime period.

The FSC (0-1) offense started strong, scoring five goals in the opening quarter. Senior midfielder Kyle Kolano (Babylon, N.Y.) struck first only 59 seconds into the game, followed by goals from classmates Tyler Kollar (Bellport, N.Y.) and Andrew Giovinco (Syosset, N.Y.) to put Farmingdale State in front, 3-1. After Lynn (2-0) responded to tie the game, Kollar and junior midfielder Amir Slaughter (North Babylon, N.Y.) scored back-to-back goals to give the Rams a 5-3 advantage.

In the closing moments of the first quarter, the Fighting Knights capitalized on a long pass, finding the back of the net with 0.3 seconds showing on the clock to cut the deficit to one heading into the second.

Kolano added his second goal early in the second quarter to put FSC ahead, 6-4, but the Rams were held scoreless over the final 12:08 of the half, allowing Lynn to tie the score at 6-6.

The Rams once again scored the first goal of the third to reclaim the lead, but three straight goals by the Fighting Knights put them ahead, 9-7, heading to the fourth.

Farmingdale State quickly closed the gap to one as senior attack Thomas Stock (Selden, N.Y.) buried a goal off the feed from junior attack Kamryn Gill (Riverhead, N.Y.) to pull within one. Just over five minutes later, Gill scored one of his own, assisted by sophomore attack Adam Giovinco (Syosset, N.Y.), to knot the game at 9-9 with seven minutes remaining.

Both teams had scoring chances down the stretch, with Rams' senior goalkeeper Dan Erler (Smithtown, N.Y.) making a crucial save with 1:15 to play to send the game into overtime.

Lynn won the opening faceoff in OT and quickly called a timeout. Erler made one save, but was unable to stop a second attempt as the Fighting Knights earned the 10-9 victory.

Kolano and Kollar finished with two goals apiece for FSC, while Gill had a goal and two assists. Adam and Andrew Giovinco tallied one goal and one assist each in defeat.

On defense, senior William Henry (West Islip, N.Y.) recorded four caused turnovers in his FSC debut and sophomore Sean Lawson (Mattituck, N.Y.) tallied three CT's and one ground ball.

Erler continued his strong play from last season with a 13-save performance. He is now third in program history with 335 career saves.

The Rams return to action on Sunday at noon, taking on Keiser University at Oxbridge Academy in West Palm Beach.
