FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State men's basketball team closed out the FSC Tip-Off Tournament on Sunday afternoon with an 81-72 victory over Albright in the consolation game, while Cortland held off No. 25 Saint Joseph (Conn.) in a tight 61-57 contest to claim the tournament Championship.
Consolation Game: Farmingdale State - 81, Albright - 72
The Rams (2-1) fell behind in the opening minutes before calling a timeout and responding with a 12-2 run to jump ahead, 16-7. Over the final 10:10 of the first half, Albright (1-3) outscored FSC 31-19 to take a 38-35 advantage into halftime.
Farmingdale State trailed 44-39 early in the second half before a 7-2 stretch, featuring baskets by junior forward
Kentrell Evans (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and sophomore guard
Jordan Tucker (Elmont, N.Y.), pulled the Rams within 46-44.
After the Lions extended their lead to 60-55, Farmingdale State tallied 10 unanswered points to jump in front, 65-60.
Following an Albright 3-pointer, Tucker, senior guard
Sean Conroy (Staten Island, N.Y.) and sophomore guard
Michael Spisto (Staten Island, N.Y.) fueled an 11-0 run to push the FSC lead to 76-63.
The Rams maintained at least a seven-point edge the rest of the way as they secured the 81-72 victory.
Conroy, who was named to the All-Tournament team, led the Rams with 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting, to go along with five rebounds, three assists, four steals and three blocked shots. Tucker recorded 16 points off the bench, while Evans produced 15 points and eight rebounds in the win.
Championship Game: Cortland - 61, Saint Joseph (Conn.) - 57
Cortland (3-1) led 32-28 at halftime and maintained that advantage throughout most of the second half.Â
With 1:35 remaining, the Blue Jays (3-2) used a layup to tie the game at 54-54. Tournament MVP Aaron Coston answered with a 3-pointer to put Cortland back in front, but a foul on a 3-point attempt allowed Saint Joseph to even the score at 57-57.
Out of a timeout, Cortland's Isaiah Austin drained the eventual game-winning 3-pointer for a 60-57 lead with 26 seconds left.
The Blue Jays missed a 3-pointer on their next possession, and after a Cortland free throw, the Red Dragons closed out the 61-57 victory to claim the championship.
Coston followed his 24-point performance on Saturday with 15 points, nine rebounds and four assists on Sunday to earn MVP honors. Teammate Kendall Arcuri totaled 11 points, six rebounds and three assists as he joined Coston on the All-Tournament Team.
Farmingdale State will next head on the road to take on Baruch College on Wednesday, November 19th at 7:30 p.m.
