Three-Goal Surge Lifts Men's Soccer to Victory Over Purchase

Farmingdale State 3, Purchase 2
PURCHASE, N.Y. | A run of three goals within a 2:37 stretch midway through the second half Tuesday night propelled the Farmingdale State College men's soccer team to a 3-2, Skyline Conference road victory at Purchase College.

FSC (3-5-3, 2-1-3 Skyline) fell behind in the 58th minute of action, as the Panthers (4-7-2, 1-4-2) benefited from an own goal off a deflection off the right-hand post.

From there, the Rams' three-goal spurt began on a corner kick in the 65th minute. Sophomore midfielder Johnny Guillen's (Locust Valley, N.Y.) service found junior Omar Hernandez (Brentwood, N.Y.) alone at the penalty spot. The defender's ball back across the face of the goal went directly to sophomore William Guillen (Locust Valley, N.Y.) – whose right-footed volley found the net for his first-collegiate goal and tied the score at 1-1.

Farmingdale State went ahead for good 44 seconds later, as freshman midfielder Carlos Hernandez (Dix Hills, N.Y.) sent a pass to the left wing for classmate Lucca Noboa (Freeport, N.Y.). Noboa's 22-yard shot caromed in off the inside of the right post for his third goal of the season, and put the visitors ahead, 2-1.

FSC's advantage was doubled less than two minutes later, when Hernandez's through ball from the center circle down found senior Tyree Baskin Jr. (Sr.; Freeport, N.Y.)  in alone on a breakaway. The upperclassman converted a right-footed shot past the Purchase keeper, giving the Rams a 3-1 lead.

The Panthers pulled one goal back 15 minutes before the final horn to cut its deficit to 3-2, before Rams freshman netminder Vas Dallas (Garden City South, N.Y.) made both of his saves on the night inside the final minute of action to preserve the win.

Farmingdale State's next Skyline Conference match will be at home on Saturday (Oct. 11) versus St. Joseph's-Long Island, with kickoff slated for noon.
