Farmingdale State 2, Maritime 1
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | With both teams needing a win on Wednesday night in order to secure a spot in the upcoming Skyline Conference Men's Soccer Championship, Farmingdale State College received a goal in transition from freshman attacker
Josue Granados (Brentwood, N.Y.) with 45.1 seconds left to capture a 2-1 victory over visiting Maritime College.
Prior to the game, FSC (5-8-4, 4-3-4 Skyline) recognized three student-athletes as part of its Senior Night ceremonies:
Tyree Baskin Jr. (Freeport, N.Y.),
Rocco Dispinseri (Dix Hills, N.Y.) and
Kevin Garcia (Deer Park, N.Y.).
Farmingdale State will enter the six-team 2025 Skyline Conference Men's Soccer Championship as the No. 5 seed, and travel to play a noontime first-round game at fourth-seeded Manhattanville University on Saturday.
Granados's sixth goal of the season came nearly two minutes after the Privateers (8-5-3, 3-5-3) leveled the game at 1-1 on a headed shot that was unable to be cleared off the line by the Farmingdale State defense.
Once Maritime's goal rippled the net with 2:37 remaining, both teams came out after the ensuing kickoff looking to find the winning tally. Granados took the ball at midfield and raced down the middle of the field, before playing a pass to the right side of the penalty area to sophomore fullback
William Guillen (Locust Valley, N.Y.). Guillen sent a cross to the back post for freshman
Lucca Noboa (Freeport, N.Y.), who headed the ball back towards the penalty spot. The ball landed at the feet of Granados, who buried the game-winning and playoff-clinching goal for the home side.
The Privateers had a pair of corner kicks in the final seconds, but were unable to solve the FSC defense for an equalizing score.
Farmingdale State carried a 1-0 lead into halftime, as in the final minute Granados played a cross at the end line to classmate
Josue Corea (Wyandanch, N.Y.), who dented the net from 10 yards away.
Dispinseri made seven of his eight saves on the night in the second half, many of the point-blank variety, to help the Rams see out the victory.
