Farmingdale State 0, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy 0
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College women's soccer team played Skyline Conference leader U.S. Merchant Marine Academy to a 0-0 draw on Wednesday night. FSC (6-9-3 overall) now holds a 5-2-2 record in conference play, while the visiting Mariners (9-3-3) sit atop the Skyline table with an 8-0-2 mark and 26 standings points.
USMMA had a strong wind at its back in the first half on its way to an 8-3 shots advantage. However, it was the Rams who received four saves in net from senior goalkeeper
Hailey Stork (Bellmore, N.Y.) during the opening 45 minutes of play. Farmingdale State nearly broke through in the 42nd minute with a goal off a Mariners turnover, only to see the play waived off due to offsides.
The teams were nearly even in the shots category in the second half, with USMMA holding a slight 8-7 edge, with each team nearly finding the back of the net off corner kicks in the final 22 minutes. Stork made a diving save in the top-left corner of the goal off a second-touch shot inside the penalty area in the 69th minute, before Rams senior attacker
Alyse Rivera (Manhattan, N.Y.) saw her header off a corner from classmate
Alexandra Coloma (Seaford, N.Y.) rattle the crossbar 7:30 left before the final whistle.
Stork finished the afternoon with seven saves in notching the shutout for Farmingdale State, which plays host to Skyline foe Manhattanville University on Senior Day, Saturday at 3 p.m.
