FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College women's tennis team celebrated Senior Day in grand style on Wednesday afternoon, as the Rams remained undefeated in Skyline Conference play with a 7-0 shutout over Purchase College.
Prior to the match, the FSC team recognized four seniors for their dedication to the program during their tenures at the school:
Mikayla DeMaria (West Babylon, N.Y.);
MacKenzie Gisler (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.);
Heather McGullam (Hauppauge, N.Y.); and
Samantha Stolfi (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.).
The Rams (6-4, 4-0 Skyline) secured the doubles point over the Panthers (6-6, 2-3) by sweeping through all three matches. Gisler and DeMaria were first into the scorebook with their 6-1 victory in the third flight, before Loria teamed up with freshman
Martine McGowan (Port Washington, N.Y.) to card a 6-2 decision in the second flight. Junior
Natalia Furchel (Manorville, N.Y.) and freshman
Kaelin Burnett (East Islip, N.Y.) rounded out the sweep with a hard-fought 6-4 triumph in the No. 1 slot.
Gisler moved the team score to 2-0 when she picked up a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the No. 4 singles flight over Purchase's Novalie Nguyen, before Loria's 6-1, 6-1 decision against Sadie Killebrew moved FSC to within one point of the team win. McGowan dispatched Emma Arnaud in the No. 2 slot by scores of 6-1 and 6-0, while DeMaria earned a 6-0, 6-1 win over Julie Cova at No. 6. Furchel bested Amelia Perlmutter in the top-flight match, 6-3 and 6-1, with Burnett rounding out the Rams' sweep with her super-tiebreaker win at No. 3 over Katelin Smith (6-3, 4-6, 1-0 [10-4]).
Home Skyline play continues for Farmingdale State on Friday afternoon (Oct. 17), when it plays host to Sarah Lawrence College in a 4:30 p.m. first serve.
