Women's Tennis Continues Unbeaten Skyline Run, Defeats Sarah Lawrence

Farmingdale State 7, Sarah Lawrence 0
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College women's tennis team continued its unbeaten run in Skyline Conference play on Friday afternoon, as the Rams defeated visiting Sarah Lawrence College, 7-0.

FSC (7-4, 5-0 Skyline), which has two conference matches remaining before next week's (Oct. 22, 25) four-team Skyline Conference Women's Tennis Championship, conceded just four games in sweeping all three doubles matches against the Gryphons (6-5, 2-3). Freshman Martine McGowan (Port Washington, N.Y.) and senior Gabriella Loria (Levittown, N.Y.) swept past its Sarah Lawrence counterparts in the second flight, 6-0, while junior Natalia Furchel (Manorville, N.Y.) and freshman Kaelin Burnett (East Islip, N.Y.) captured a 6-2 decision in the No. 1 position. The senior third-flight tandem of MacKenzie Gisler (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and Mikayla DeMaria (West Babylon, N.Y.) rounded out the sweep with a 6-2 victory in the No. 3 slot.

DeMaria notched the first singles win in the fifth flight after her opponent retired following one set of play, before McGowan scored a 6-0, 6-0 triumph in the second flight versus SLC's Viha Shah. After Burnett clinched the team match by knocking off her No. 3 counterpart by identical 6-2 scores, Gisler defeated Margaret Moon at No. 4, 6-2 and 6-1. Furchel (6-3, 6-0) and senior Heather McGullam (Hauppauge, N.Y.) closed out the afternoon with victories at the Nos. 1 and 6 spots, respectively.

Farmingdale State is on the road Saturday for a noontime Skyline first serve at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, N.Y. A win by the Rams would clinch the top seed for the upcoming conference tourney.
