McAuliff, Rivera Send Women's Soccer Past Sarah Lawrence

Farmingdale State - 4, Sarah Lawrence - 0
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Farmingdale State forwards Rachel McAuliff (Sayville, N.Y.) and Alyse Rivera (Manhattan, N.Y.) tallied two first-half goals apiece to lead the women's soccer team past Sarah Lawrence College, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Rams improved to 2-0-2 in Skyline Conference play while handing the Gryphons (6-5-1, 3-1-1) their first conference loss of the season.

FSC (3-5-3) opened the scoring just 4:53 in after sophomore Kayla Mendez (Staten Island, N.Y.) gathered the ball in the corner and sent a perfect cross pass for McAuliff who deflected it in with her right foot.

The Rams scored again just 7:31 later as freshman midfielder Abigail Chest's (Johnstown, N.Y.) shot hit the crossbar and McAuliff followed with her second goal to give FSC the early 2-0 advantage.

In the 18th minute, Mendez drove towards the front of the net and drew a foul in the box to set up a penalty kick. Rivera stepped up and had her penalty partially stopped by SLC goalkeeper Bella Vaca, but the ball trickled over the line to put Farmingdale State in front, 3-0.

The fourth and final goal of the first half came at 19:59 when Rivera recovered a blocked shot and buried the goal to the lower left of the net from 12 yards out.

FSC outshot the Gryphons, 15-3, and had four corner kicks as they controlled the first half and led 4-0 at the break.

The Rams did not attempt a shot in the final 45 minutes, but held SLC to just two shots on goal.

Sarah Lawrence had their final shot saved by FSC junior goalkeeper Kelsie Feingold (Commack, N.Y.) in the 90th minute as the Rams went on for the 4-0 shutout victory.

McAuliff is now sixth in the Skyline Conference with her team-leading six goals this season. Rivera ranks seventh with 13 points and is eighth with five goals.

Farmingdale State will next play host to non-conference opponent Vassar on Wednesday, October 2nd at 7:30 p.m.
