Vassar - 2, Farmingdale State - 0
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State women's soccer team hosted regionally-ranked Vassar College on Wednesday evening and fell by a score of 2-0 behind a pair of late goals. The Rams dropped to 3-6-3 overall, while the Brewers improved to 7-1-2 on the season.
In a scoreless first half, Vassar held a slight edge with four shots on goal to just two for FSC. The Brewers best chance came in the 27th minute when a redirected shot was saved by the leg of Farmingdale State freshman goalkeeper
Sam Richards (Elliott City, MD). FSC's best opportunity came on a shot by junior defender
Alexandra Coloma (Seaford, N.Y.) just three minutes later which went just over the top of the crossbar.
The game remained scoreless until the 77th minute when Vassar drew a free kick off a Farmingdale State yellow card. Brewers' junior midfielder Rebecca Rodriguez sent the free kick into the box for freshman attack Alice Crowley, who headed the ball into the right side of the net to go up, 1-0.
Only 3:20 later, Vassar doubled their lead after a cross in front deflected off an FSC defender and landed in front of freshman forward Liv Ivie. Ivie then headed the ball over Richards as the two collided for the Brewers second goal.
The Rams nearly cut into the Vassar lead when Coloma sent in a corner kick and senior defender
Maddy Berry (Glen Oaks, N.Y.) had her shot saved on a dive by Vassar freshman goalie Laura Shea.
Shea, who finished with seven stops, made one more in the closing minutes as the Brewers earned the 2-0 win.
Richards finished with seven saves in net for FSC. She now has four games this year with 6+ saves.
The Rams next return to Skyline Conference action when they travel to Purchase College on Saturday, October 5th at noon.
