Men's Soccer Drops Road Match at Manhattanville

PURCHASE, N.Y. | In a rematch of last seasons Skyline Conference Final, the Farmingdale State men's soccer team traveled to Manhattanville University and fell, 1-0. FSC (5-3-3) suffered their first conference loss and dropped to 2-1-2, while the Valiants (6-4-1, 4-0 Skyline) remain undefeated in Skyline play with the victory.

In the opening minute, the Rams quickly drew a corner kick and put a shot on net but were unable to score.

Manhattanville responded with seven unanswered shots over the next 20 minutes, including three on goal, before Farmingdale State countered and had a shot blocked.

FSC had the best chance of the first half in the 42nd minute as senior midfielder Sam Anjo (Mineola, N.Y.) had a shot saved and freshman forward Jean Mejia (Freeport, N.Y.) put a shot off the post.

Farmingdale State sophomore goalkeeper Anthony Martinez (Bay Shore, N.Y.) made four saves in a scoreless first half.

After trading chances in the first 20 minutes of the second half, the Valiants scored the lone goal of the game with 24:39 remaining. Manhattanville's Nick Diaz set up Mason Chetti for his fourth goal of the season.

MVL maintained the pressure over the next 11 minutes, sending four shots towards Martinez and attempting three corner kicks.

The Rams nearly tied the game in the final seconds as senior midfielder Rafael Castro (Cartagena, Colombia) had a shot cleared off the goal line by a Manhattanville defender for a team save. FSC earned a corner kick with just five seconds on the clock but ran out of time as they lost, 1-0.

Martinez finished with six saves in net for the Rams. The Valiants' Luis Granados earned the shutout with four saves.

Farmingdale State will next play host to Skyline opponent St. Joseph's-Long Island on Saturday, October 5th at noon.
