Volleyball Topples Hunter in Five Sets

NEW YORK | The Farmingdale State College volleyball team closed out Saturday's deciding fifth set on a 4-0 run to capture a 3-2 (25-21, 28-26, 19-25, 21-25, 15-13) victory in non-conference play at Hunter College.

The Rams (5-4), who won the first two sets on the day, found themselves down 13-11 in the final set against the host Hawks (7-4). From there, sophomore Doly DeJesus (Geneva, N.Y.) put down a kill for a FSC side out, before a Hunter attack error leveled the frame at 13-13. Junior Delaney Keegan (Lake Grove, N.Y.) next registered a service ace to put the visitors in front by one, before a combo block on match point by senior Mikayla Profeta (West Islip, N.Y.) and sophomore Sarah Rende (Wantagh, N.Y.) closed out the Farmingdale State victory.

Keegan's fourth double-digit points outing resulted in career-highs of 20 points on 15 kills, a match-high-tying four aces (with DeJesus) and one solo block, with freshman outside hitter Samantha Russo (Bay Shore, N.Y.) addin 14 kills, as many digs and two aces. Profeta's 13.5-point afternoon included 10 kills, two aces and three block assists, while Rende quarterbacked the FSC offense with 39 assists, a team-best 19 digs, six kills (error-free 19 attacks) and two block assists. Keegan and DeJesus passed 17 and 15 digs, respectively, while senior libero Lana Ventura (Port Washington, N.Y.) added 14 on a perfect afternoon in serve receive.

Farmingdale State, winners in four of its last five matches, is back in road non-conference action Tuesday night (Sept. 24), when it travels to Brooklyn College for a 6 p.m. first serve.
