Mejia Pair Guides Men's Soccer to Skyline-Opening Win vs. Yeshiva

Farmingdale State 3, Yeshiva 1
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | A pair of second-half goals by freshman winger Jean Mejia (Freeport, N.Y.) gave the Farmingdale State College men's soccer team a 3-1, Skyline Conference-opening victory over visiting Yeshiva University.on Sunday afternoon.

The host Rams (4-2-1, 1-0 Skyline) took a 1-0 lead into halftime, as senior striker Olvin Yanes (Selden, N.Y.) finished into the right side of the net after a cross-box pair of passes by Jean Mejia and senior striker Anthony Bileddo (Carle Place, N.Y.) less than four minutes before the break.

FSC extended its lead over the 10-man Maccabees (2-2-1, 2-1-1) just over five minutes into the resumption of play, as sophomore midfielder Jose Mejia (Guatemala City, Guatemala) played Jean Mejia into the top-right of the penalty area. The freshman cut to his left, and beat the YU keeper to double the Rams' lead.

Jean Mejia netted his second of the afternoon five minutes later, when Bileddo's cut-back pass across the six-yard box found the freshman at the right-hand post to give Farmingdale State a 3-0 edge.

YU pulled one goal back 4:08 before the final whistle, capitalizing on a Rams turnover in their defensive penalty area.

Sophomore keeper Anthony Martinez (Bay Shore, N.Y.) made four saves in goal for Farmingdale State, which is back in Skyline action Wednesday night (Sept. 18) in a 7 p.m. kickoff at SUNY Maritime College.
