FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College women's tennis team lost a closely contested match Saturday afternoon against Pratt Institute, as the visiting Cannoneers captured a 4-3 decision.
The host Rams (3-3) earned the team doubles point by winning two matches, including a 6-4 victory in the second flight by senior
Lien Collings (Merrick, N.Y.) and junior
MacKenzie Gisler (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) in the second flight, as well as a 6-2 win at No. 3 by juniors
Gabriella Loria (Levittown, N.Y.) and
Mikayla DeMaria (W. Babylon, N.Y.).
Pratt (1-0) earned four singles victories - including all three featuring a second-set tiebreaker - to open its season in the win column. FSC's two triumphs came from Gisler in the fourth flight, 6-0 and 6-2 versus the Cannoneers' Julia Ognibene, and from Loria at No. 5 against Victoria Delgado, 6-4 and 6-3. For Loria, it was her fifth singles victory in six outings this year.
Farmingdale State is back on its home court Thursday afternoon (Sept. 19), when it welcomes Baruch College at 4:30.
