Women's Tennis Shuts Out Yeshiva in Skyline Opener

Farmingdale State 7, Yeshiva 0
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College women's tennis team opened its Skyline Conference schedule on Thursday with a 7-0 victory over visiting Yeshiva University.

FSC (3-2, 1-0 Skyline) earned the doubles point by sweeping all three matches, with the second-flight tandem of sophomore Natalia Furchel (Manorville, N.Y.) and junior Amanda Jones (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) first into the scorebook with a 6-1 win over the Maccabees' (1-2, 0-1) Sarah Leiderman and Anna Laufer. The Rams' No. 1 pairing of senior Lien Collings (Merrick, N.Y.) and junior MacKenzie Gisler (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) locked up the team doubles point with their 6-3 triumph against YU's Shira Adler and Micka Mimoun, before juniors Gabriella Loria (Levittown, N.Y.) and Mikayla DeMaria (W. Babylon, N.Y.) carded a 6-4 victory in the third flight versus Sarah Grunseid and Eliana Tilem.

Collings's 6-0, 6-2 victory in top-flight singles play against Adler put FSC ahead 2-0, before Furchel (vs. Mimoun; 6-3, 6-1) and Loria (vs. Grunseid; 6-2, 6-2) clinched the team victory with wins in the Nos. 2 and 5 flights, respectively. Jones battled in her No. 3 match versus Leiderman to capture a 7-5, 6-1 decision, while DeMaria outlasted Yeshiva's Gabrielle Resnick in the sixth flight, 6-3 and 7-5. Rounding out the Rams' sweep was Gisler at No. 4, where she battled back from one set down to earn a 2-6, 6-2 and 1-0 (10-5 in the super tiebreaker) victory against Laufer.

Farmingdale State continues its homestand Saturday, when it welcomes Pratt Institute for a noontime first serve.
