Mejia Tallies Two Assists as Rams Shutout Baruch

Farmingdale State - 3, Baruch - 0
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Sophomore midfielder Jose Mejia (Guatemala City, Guatemala) assisted on Farmingdale State's first two goals in their 3-0 non-conference win versus Baruch on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the FSC men's soccer team improved to 3-2-1 overall, while the Bearcats fell to 0-3-1.

Farmingdale State opened the scoring in the 11th minute when Jose Mejia played a long ball down the left side to freshman forward Jean Mejia (Freeport, N.Y.). Jean dribbled past a defender and scored into the right side of the net to go up, 1-0.

Baruch recorded three shots on goal in the final 20 minutes of the first half, but Rams' sophomore goalkeeper Anthony Martinez (Bay Shore, N.Y.) made saves on each as they maintained the 1-0 advantage into the break.

In the 68th minute, Jose Mejia assisted again when his shot was saved by the Bearcats goalie and junior forward Tyree Baskin Jr. (Freeport, N.Y.) scored off the rebound to give FSC a two-goal lead.

Farmingdale State added a goal in the final minute as sophomore forward Jordan Ponsar (Valley Stream, N.Y.) forced a turnover by the Baruch goalkeeper and scored from six yards out for his first goal of the year.

The Rams held a 16-14 shot advantage and took five corner kicks to just three for Baruch.

Martinez earned his first career win and shutout, recording five saves.

FSC will next open their Skyline Conference schedule when they host Yeshiva for a match on Sunday, September 15th at noon.
