Women's Volleyball Opens 2024 Season With Victory Over SUNY Delhi

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State women's volleyball team opened their 2024 season with a home match against SUNY Delhi and earned a 3-1 victory. After dropping the first set, 25-18, the Rams rallied for a 25-19 come-from-behind win in the second set to knot the score at 1-1. FSC recorded convincing 25-14 and 25-12 victories in the third and fourth sets, respectively, as they picked up the 3-1 non-conference victory.

In set two, the Rams trailed 18-17 before registering a pair of points to take a one-point advantage. The Rams led 20-19 before FSC senior outside hitter Jenya Surlin (East Meadow, N.Y.) produced four straight kills to put the Rams in front by five. An attacking error by the Broncos on the next rally secured the 25-19 win.

Surlin finished with nine kills and two block assists for 10 points, while senior middle blocker Mikayla Profeta (West Islip, N.Y.) had a match-high 10 kills and four blocks (two solo). Freshman outside Samantha Russo (Bay Shore, N.Y.) recorded nine kills and 25 digs in her first collegiate match and sophomore middle Stephanie Nemecek (Farmingdale, N.Y.) tallied six kills, two service aces, two solo blocks and one block assist. Sophomore Lauren Offermann (North Babylon, N.Y.) added four kills and three blocks for 6.5 points.

Sophomore setter Sarah Rende (Wantagh, N.Y.) registered 36 assists, 12 digs and a match-high four aces. Senior libero Lana Ventura (Port Washington, N.Y.) chipped in with 25 digs, while freshman Mackenzie Marquardt (Centereach, N.Y.) had 18 digs and four aces.

SUNY Delhi was led by Finley Benn, who recorded nine kills and 12 digs.

The Rams will return to action on Thursday, September 5th when they play host to Rutgers-Newark at 6:00 p.m.
