FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The FSC softball team swept visiting Purchase College on Saturday afternoon, clinching the #1 seed for next week's Skyline Conference Championship. The Rams have won 21 of their last 22 games and finish the regular season with a 30-8 overall record, including 17-1 in Skyline play.
It was senior day at FSCÂ and special pregame ceremony was held to honor three graduating seniors:
Amanda Arcese (Bellmore, N.Y.),
Allie Stanya (Babylon, N.Y.) and
Jenna Giliberti (Bellmore, N.Y.).
Game 1
The Rams captured game one by a score of 8-0 in five innings. FSC took a 3-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by freshman third baseman
Bailey Hammock (Pt. Jervis, N.Y.), an RBI sacrifice bunt by senior shortstop
Angelina Capuano (Selden, N.Y.) and an RBI ground out by freshman center fielder
Ashley Toro (Islip, N.Y.).
Farmingdale State extended their lead to 4-0 with a double by freshman left fielder
Isabella Marchini (Hicksville, N.Y.) to score classmate
Anna Rahner (Islip, N.Y.) in the fourth.
Leading 5-0, the Rams clinched the run-rule victory with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Rahner singled and quickly scored on a triple by Toro. Marchini followed with an RBI single before Hammock secured the win with an RBI single through the left side.
Stanya (W, 16-3, 5.0 IP, 3 H, 6 SO) tossed a complete game shutout to improve to 16-3 on the season. She lowered her ERA to a Skyline-leading 1.01 on the season
Hammock was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a walk, three runs batted in and one run scored. Giliberti had three hits and two runs scored, while Rahner was 2-for-2 with a walk. Marchini and freshman first baseman
Madison Sturtz (E. Islip, N.Y.) added two hits apiece in the win.
Game 2
Junior
Ava Shorr (No. Babylon, N.Y. - W, 13-5, 7.0 IP, 6 SO, 0 H) threw her third no-hitter of the season in game two, allowing just two batters to reach base, leading FSC to a 2-0 win. She improved to 13-5 and now holds a 1.50 ERA in 2024.
The Rams scored lone runs in the first and second innings en route to the victory.
Giliberti reached twice with a triple and a walk, while Capuano, sophomore designated player
Samantha Stolfi (Pt. Jefferson Station, N.Y.), Toro and Sturtz each had one hit.
The Rams have earned a first-round bye and will host the four-team, double-elimination portion of the Skyline Conference Championship May 9-11 (Thu.-Sat.). Stay tuned to
