CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. |Â Behind a complete-game two-hit shutout in the pitcher's circle by senior right-hander
Allie Stanya (Babylon, N.Y.), top-seeded Farmingdale State College moved into the winners bracket of the 2024 Skyline Conference Softball Championship with an 8-0, five-inning victory to open tournament play against No. 5-seed SUNY Old Westbury.
With the win, the Rams (31-8) will next play in Friday's 1 p.m. winners bracket final against Thursday night's winner of the (3) St. Joseph's-Brooklyn/(2) Manhattanville contest. Meanwhile, the Panthers (22-13) will play an elimination game against Thursday night's losing team at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
After Stanya stranded a Panthers runner at third base in the top of the first inning, FSC got on the board with six runs in the bottom of the second frame. Freshman left fielder
Isabella Marchini (Hicksville, N.Y.) laced a one-out single through the left side of the OW infield, plating junior
Alyssa Cowen (Garden City So., N.Y.) and freshman
Ashley Toro (Islip, N.Y.) to open the Rams' scoring. Stanya and Marchini scored on a single by freshman third baseman
Bailey Hammock (Pt. Jervis, N.Y.) to double Farmingdale State's advantage, before senior shortstop
Angelina Capuano (Sayville, N.Y.) singled to drive in Hammock and senior right fielder
Jenna Giliberti (Bellmore, N.Y.).
Marchini picked up her third RBI of the day when her single to center drove home freshman catcher
Anna Rahner (Islip, N.Y.) in the third, before Giliberti's two-out single to center allowed Toro to score from second base with FSC's final run of the game.
Stanya (W, 17-3; BB, 7 K) retired 11 of the last 12 hitters she faced to send the Rams to victory, while Toro (2-for-2, 2B, 2 R) and Marchini notched two hits apiece.
