Stock's Late Run, OT Winner Send Men's Lacrosse Past Maritime

Farmingdale State 16, Maritime 15 (OT)
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Senior attacker Thomas Stock scored a pair of goals in the final two minutes of regulation Tuesday night, and then added an overtime winner 2:35 into extra time in the Farmingdale State College men's lacrosse team's 16-15, Skyline Conference victory over Maritime College.

The host Rams (10-2, 2-0 Skyline) won their fourth straight contest, and handed the Privateers (6-5, 2-1) their first regular-season Skyline loss since the 2018 campaign.

Stock's first of five goals on the evening came 2:39 into the game, starting a run that sent FSC in front 3-0 in the first eight minutes of action. Maritime scored four of the next five, before junior midfielder Michael Cassano (Plainview, N.Y.) tallied his second of the night with less than 10 seconds to go in the opening period to give the Rams a 5-4 advantage.

After seniors Trey Connolly (Seaford, N.Y.) and Gerardo Maldonado (W. Hempstead, N.Y.) found the back of the net at the 13:42 and 10:34 marks of the second period, respectively, junior Tyler Kollar's (Bellport, N.Y.) 22nd goal of the season with 3:34 left gave Farmingdale State an 8-6 halftime edge.

Cassano's hat trick was completed as the third period expired on a running shot in transition off an outlet pass from Kollar, before senior Tanner Longo (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.) buried an extra-man tally 37 seconds into the fourth to push FSC's lead to 12-9. After Maritime used a three-goal spurt to tie the game at 12-all with 11:34 to go in regulation, FSC freshman attacker Adam Giovinco (Syosset, N.Y.) scored his 40th goal of the season at the 8:38 mark to put his side back in front by one. The Privateers followed up with another three-goal run and held a 15-13 lead with 2:31 to go, before Stock converted assists from senior Kyle Kolano (Babylon, N.Y.) and Cassano at the 1:57 and 1:14 marks, respectively, to send the game into an extra period.

Both teams fired one shot apiece in the first 45 seconds of overtime, before FSC freshman long-stick midfielder Sean Lawson (Mattituck, N.Y.) forced a Privateers turnover in front of the goal crease with 2:15 showing on the scoreboard. Freshman defender Joseph Bleck (Farmingdale, N.Y.) picked up the ensuing ground ball, and following a successful clear and time-out call by the Rams, Cassano found Stock the game-winning marker -- his Skyline-leading 43rd goal of the season -- with 1:25 remaining in the extra period to set off the Farmingdale State celebration.

Stock's six-point night tied for the game-high, with Cassano's hat trick and two assists setting a career-high with five points. Giovinco finished with two goals and as many assists, while Kollar (g, 2a) and Kolano (2g, a) ending the night with three points apiece. Lawson tied for the game-high with three caused turnovers to go with five ground balls in front of junior goalie Dan Erler (Smithtown, N.Y.), who made 11 saves and added a third-period assist half-field outlet pass to Giovinco.

Head coach Sean Chamberlain's Farmingdale State squad is back in Skyline action at home on Friday night, when they welcome the University of Mount Saint Vincent for a 7 p.m. opening face-off.
