Farmingdale State - 26, St. Joseph's-Long Island - 15
PATCHOGUE, N.Y. |Â Freshman attack
Carly Livingston (Farmingdale, N.Y.) scored a program-record-tying nine goals to lead the Farmingdale State College women's lacrosse team to a 26-15, Skyline Conference win at St. Joseph's University-Long Island on Friday evening.
With the victory, the Rams (9-8, 6-2 Skyline) have locked up the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in next week's six-team, Skyline Conference Championship by virtue of the conference's tiebreaker procedures. FSC, which will play host to a semifinal contest on May 2 (Thu.) against a to-be-determined opponent, tied the program's single-game record with its 26 goals on the night (previous: vs. Bard; April 10, 2010).
Livingston tied the FSC single-game goals record held (previous: Justine Rothar, vs. Mount Saint Vincent; March 26, 2009), and her 12 points on the night are tied for the fourth-most in program history. Through regular-season play, Livingston has registered 100 points (62g, 38a) in her 17-game debut campaign – marking just the second time in program history that the century mark has been reached in a season (Nicole Marzocca, 2014; 59-47-106 in 20 games played). The freshman sits one goal shy of the single-season program record of 63, which was set by Emily Williams in 2010.
The Golden Eagles (8-5, 6-2) held a 5-4 lead with under three minutes to play in the first period, before consecutive goals by senior midfielder
Ashley Codispoti (Patchogue, N.Y.) and freshman
Olivia Cassese (Farmingdale, N.Y.) gave Farmingdale State a 6-5 edge at the end of the quarter. After St. Joseph's leveled the score 18 seconds into the second frame, the Rams scored the next seven goals of the game – including four by sophomore attacker
Emily Sohm (Seaford, N.Y.) – to stake the visitors to a 13-8 halftime lead.
Livingston and sophomore
Jordyn Neu (New Hyde Pk., N.Y.) scored two goals apiece as part of a 5-0 run to start the second half for FSC, and St. Joseph's could get no closer than seven goals the rest of the way.
Codispoti notched career-highs of six goals, eight points and 12 draw controls, while junior midfielder
Molly Espey (W. Hempstead, N.Y.) filled the stat sheet with a hat trick, 10 controlled draws and two caused turnovers. Sohm finished the evening with five goals on six shots, and freshman defender
Markella Moutafis (Bellmore, N.Y.) swiped two takeaways. Sophomore goalkeeper
Giavanna Stamatelo (Levittown, N.Y.) made saves on nine Golden Eagles shots.
