PATCHOGUE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College men's tennis team defeated Skyline Conference opponent St. Joseph's-Long Island, 9-0, on Wednesday to earn its record-setting 15th consecutive victory. The Rams finish their regular-season schedule with a perfect 15-0 record (6-0 Skyline), and will enter next week's Skyline Conference Championship as the No. 1 seed.
With the exception of the COVID-shortened 2020 and 2021 seasons, this marks the first time in school history that a FSC program will enter postseason play with an undefeated record.
Farmingdale State rolled through doubles competition as the top pairing of seniors
Alan Sabovic (Bohemia, N.Y.) and
Matthew Waterhouse (Massapequa Park, N.Y.), as well as the #2 duo of freshman
Ty Williams (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) and senior
Muhammad Sawar (Brentwood, N.Y.), earned 8-1 victories. Junior
Vansh Aggarwal (Mumbai, India) and freshman
Emil Sabovic (Bohemia, N.Y.) registered an 8-0 victory in the third position as the Rams led, 3-0.
In singles play, Waterhouse, junior
Vincent Manzi (Massapequa, N.Y.) and freshman
Luke Mun (Carle Place, N.Y.) tallied 6-0, 6-0 wins in the third, fifth and sixth slots, respectively.
Senior
Ethan Cintron (Bayside, N.Y.) took fourth singles 6-1, 6-0, while A. Sabovic captured the top-flight match, 6-2, 6-1.
Senior
Matthew Olkhovetsky (Great Neck, N.Y.) completed FSC's 9-0 shutout with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at #3 singles.
Farmingdale State has earned the top-seed for the Skyline Conference Championship and home court advantage throughout the playoffs. The Rams are set to take on #4 seeded Yeshiva University in the Semifinal round on Friday, May 3rd.
