PATCHOGUE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team cruised to a 23-3 victory at St. Joseph's-Long Island on Tuesday evening. The Rams remained undefeated in Skyline Conference play with the win and improved to 6-0 on the season.
FSC (14-2) opened the game in a big way, outscoring the Golden Eagles (1-10, 1-5 Skyline), 14-1, in the first quarter. After SJLI tallied the first goal just 15 seconds in, FSCÂ freshman attack
Adam Giovinco (Syosset, N.Y.) responded 36 seconds later to even the score.Â
With 12:41 on the clock, the Rams rattled off five goals in a span of 2:25 to go ahead, 6-1.
Farmingdale State used eight different goal scorers in the final 8:51 of the first quarter as they took a commanding 14-1 edge.
Just 1:12 into the second quarter, senior midfielder
Kyle Kolano (Babylon, N.Y.) and sophomore attack
Anthony Martino (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) tallied back-to-back goals to take a 15-goal lead.
The Rams added two more goals in the second and three in the third as they led, 21-2.
FSC outscored the Golden Eagles, 2-1, in the final 15 minutes as they went on for the 23-3 victory.
Senior attack
Rob Varello (Smithtown, N.Y.) led all scorers with six points on two goals and four assists. Sophomore midfielder
Connor Murtha (Moriches, N.Y.) finished with two goals, one assist and a career-high seven ground balls. Kolano (4g) and Giovinco (2g, 2a) tallied four points each, while Martino and senior attack
Thomas Stock (Selden, N.Y.) recorded two goals and one assist apiece. Sophomore midfielder
Amir Slaughter (North Babylon, N.Y.) added three goals in the victory.
On defense, freshman
Sean Lawson (Mattituck, N.Y.) produced four caused turnovers and six ground balls and sophomore
Liam McGroarty (Northport, N.Y.) registered career-high's with three caused turnovers and six ground balls.
In net, sophomore
Jason Murphy (Seaford, N.Y.) led FSC goalkeepers with four saves.
The Rams next close out their regular season schedule at Merchant Marine on Saturday, April 27th at noon. FSC can clinch the #1 seed for the upcoming Skyline Conference playoffs with a victory.
