FARMINGDALE, N.Y. |Â The Farmingdale State College women's tennis team won its first match of the spring Friday, defeating visiting Mount Saint Mary College by the score of 9-0.
The Rams (11-4) swept through the three doubles matches, with the top-flight tandem of junior
Lien Collings (Merrick, N.Y.) and sophomore
MacKenzie Gisler (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) carding an 8-2 decision to start the competition. The No. 2 pair of sophomores
Amanda Jones (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) and
Gabriella Loria (Levittown, N.Y.) won their match by the same 8-2 count, before sophomores
Rebecca Ness (Clintondale, N.Y.) and
Elizabeth Cintron (Oakland Gardens, N.Y.) registered an 8-3 victory in the third flight.
Loria picked up her 12th singles win of her inaugural FSC campaign with identical 6-0 sets in her match at the No. 4 position, before sophomore
Heather McGullam (Hauppauge, N.Y.) clinched the team match with a 6-0, 6-0 decision at the sixth flight. Sophomore
Mikayla DeMaria (W. Babylon, N.Y.) was the next Rams' player to wrap up her match against the Knights, scoring a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at No. 5. After Collings followed suit with a 6-1, 6-2 victory in the top flight, Jones (6-2, 6-2) and Gisler (6-2, 7-6 [7-2] ) rounded things out at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively.
Head coach Adam Waterhouse's Rams are next in action at home on Sunday, when they play host to Oneonta at noon.
