Stanya, Shorr Record Shutouts Versus Mount Saint Vincent

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State softball team recorded a pair of shutout victories over Skyline opponent Mount Saint Vincent on Sunday afternoon.

Senior Allie Stanya (Babylon, N.Y. - W, 10-2, 5.0 IP, 8 SO) tallied her second no-hitter of the season in a 10-0 game one win and junior Ava Shorr (North Babylon, N.Y. - W, 6-5, 6.0 IP, 4 SO) earned an 8-0 shutout victory in the second game.

Game 1

FSC (17-7, 8-0 Skyline) recorded a run in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by senior shortstop Angelina Capuano (Sayville, N.Y.), before putting up six in the second to take a commanding 7-0 advantage.

Stanya and senior right fielder Jenna Giliberti (Bellmore, N.Y.) recorded RBI singles in the second and freshman third baseman Bailey Hammock (Port Jervis, N.Y.) followed with a two-run single to go up, 5-0. The Rams added two more runs on defensive errors to take the 7-0 lead.

Farmingdale State tallied three more runs in the bottom of the fourth as Capuano tallied an RBI fielder's choice and freshman catcher Anna Rahner (Islip, N.Y.) recorded a two-run double.

Stanya finished off her no-hitter with a pair of strike outs in the fifth to secure the 10-0 run-rule victory. At the plate, she was 1-for-1 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Giliberti, Hammock and sophomore designated player Samantha Stolfi (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) recorded two hits apiece, while Capuano had a hit, two runs and two RBI's. Rahner produced a double and two runs batted in.

Game 2

In game two, FSC jumped in front with two runs in the first inning. Hammock hit a one-out triple and quickly scored on a bunt single by Capuano. After an error and a wild pitch, Stolfi tallied a sacrifice fly.

The Rams tallied four more runs in the second inning to take a 6-0 lead. Giliberti hit a bases-clearing triple, before a bunt single by Hammock brought in FSC's sixth run. 

Farmingdale State led 6-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth and led off with a double by freshman left fielder Isabella Marchini (Hicksville, N.Y.). Freshman first baseman Madison Sturtz (East Islip, N.Y.) batted next and singled to third base before stealing second. Giliberti followed with an RBI single to go ahead, 7-0. After a fielder's choice ground out, Giliberti scored after stealing third base and coming in on a throwing error to give Farmingdale State the 8-0 run-rule victory.

Shorr struck out four batters en route to the complete game shutout for her sixth win of the season.

Giliberti recorded two hits, a triple, two stolen bases, two runs and four runs batted in and Marchini tallied two hits, a double and two runs scored. Hammock and Sturtz had two hits and a run scored apiece in the win, while Capuano added a hit, one run and one RBI.

Farmingdale State next plays host to non-conference opponent John Jay for a doubleheader on Thursday, April 18th at 4:00 p.m. FSC will be celebrating President John Nader's retirement as he will throw out the first pitch.
