FARMINGDALE, N.Y. |Â The Farmingdale State College men's tennis team picked up its 10th win in as many outings to start the season on Wednesday night, setting the program records both for the best start to a campaign and longest winning streak with its 9-0 blanking of Pratt Institute.
The Rams swept through all three doubles matches, including an 8-1 decision in the third flight by senior
Muhammad Sawar (Brentwood, N.Y.) and freshman
Ty Williams (Pt. Jefferson Station, N.Y.). The No. 1 tandem of sophomore
Ryan Hendel (No. Merrick, N.Y.) and junior
Vansh Aggarwal (Mumbai, India) picked up an 8-4 win to double the FSC advantage, before seniors
Alan Sabovic (Bohemia, N.Y.) and
Matthew Waterhouse (Massapequa Pk., N.Y.) rounded things out in the second flight with an 8-5 victory.
In singles play, senior
Matthew Olkhovetsky (Great Neck, N.Y.) earned the first point in his No. 6 match-up with a 6-3, 6-0 win. Sawar clinched the team match with a 6-1, 6-love decision in the fourth flight. Sabovic was next into the scorebook with his 6-0, 6-3 victory in top-flight action, before Williams finished off his opponent at No. 5, 6-love and 6-4. Aggarwal used a 10-6 margin in the third-set super tiebreaker to capture the third flight tilt, before Hendel followed up a 7-4, first-set win in his No. 2 match with a 6-0 second set to close out Farmingdale State's 10th victory of the campaign.
Head coach Adam Waterhouse's Rams will next travel to Union College in Schenectady, N.Y., for a scrimmage on Saturday, April 13, at 1 p.m., before returning home for an April 15 (Mon.), 4:30 p.m. home date with Brooklyn College.
