Farmingdale State Splits Doubleheader with New Paltz

Game 1: Farmingdale State - 3, New Paltz - 2 (F/8)
Game 2: New Paltz - 8, Farmingdale State - 2
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State softball team earned a 3-2 extra-innings, walkoff victory over SUNY New Paltz on Tuesday afternoon before falling 8-2 in the second game of the non-conference doubleheader. With the split, FSC now stands at 9-7 overall, while the Hawks are 10-4.

Game 1

The Rams trailed 1-0 in the sixth inning of game one before freshman catcher Anna Rahner (Islip, N.Y.) led off with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by senior shortstop Angelina Capuano (Sayville, N.Y.), and scored on a single by sophomore first baseman Samantha Stolfi (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) to tie the game.

After a scoreless seventh inning sent the game to extras, the Hawks took a 2-1 lead after an FSC throwing error allowed the automatic runner from second to score.

Farmingdale State quickly responded with a leadoff double by senior right fielder Jenna Giliberti (Bellmore, N.Y.) in the bottom half of the inning to score the runner and knot the game at 2-2.

In the next at-bat, Rahner hit a deep fly ball to right field that scored Giliberti all the way from second to give FSC the walk-off 3-2 victory.

Giliberti finished 3-for-4 with a double, triple, stolen base, RBI and one run scored. She was just a homerun shy of the cycle.

On the mound, Rams' senior Allie Stanya (Babylon, N.Y.) (W, 6-2, 8.0 IP, 7 H, 2 SO) earned her sixth win of the season after tossing a complete game with no earned runs allowed.

Senior pitcher Lindsay Roman (L, 3-3, 7.1 IP, 2 ER) took the complete game loss for New Paltz.

Game 2

The Hawks threatened early in game two with two runners on in the top of the first, but Farmingdale State junior Ava Shorr (North Babylon, N.Y.) forced a ground out to escape the jam.

New Paltz opened the scoring in the top of the third as they used back-to-back RBI doubles to jump ahead, 2-0.

Still up by two in the fifth, the Hawks extended their lead to 6-0 with four unearned runs. After an error scored a run and extended the inning, a bases clearing double by Reona Bianchini put New Paltz in front, 6-0.

New Paltz junior Sydney Waldon (W, 6-1, 7.0 IP) held the Rams without a hit into the the bottom of the fifth before freshman catcher Madison Sturtz (East Islip, N.Y.) registered a two-out single up the middle.

The Hawks added one run in the sixth and seventh innings to take a commanding 8-0 advantage.

Farmingdale State got on the board in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by freshman left fielder Isabella Marchini (Hicksville, N.Y.) and a sacrifice fly by sophomore designated player Lindsay Cahill (Shoreham, N.Y.), but fell, 8-2.

Sturtz had two hits and a run scored, while freshman center fielder Ashley Toro (Islip, N.Y.) tallied a double and a run scored.

FSC will next host non-conference opponent Baruch College for a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 2nd at 4:00 p.m.
