DANBURY, Conn. | The Farmingdale State College men's lacrosse team traveled to Western Connecticut State University on Wednesday night, where it fell to the host Wolves by a 12-9 margin.
After Western Connecticut (5-2) opened the scoring less than four minutes into play, the Rams (6-2) answered with a pair of late first-period goals to go up 2-1. Senior
Kyle Kolano (Babylon, N.Y.) netted his 13th goal of the year in a man-up situation with 5:04 on the clock, before junior
Michael Cassano (Plainview, N.Y.) added his sixth with 1:18 left to give the visitors a one-goal edge.
Following a quick three-goal run by the Wolves, junior midfielder
Tyler Kollar (Bellport, N.Y.) and Giovinco tallied 2:21 apart from each other to knot the game at 4-4 with 10:38 to go before halftime. A pair of goals by WestConn sandwiched FSC senior
Thomas Stock's (Selden, N.Y.) 24th tally of the season at the 6:27 mark, as the hosts held a 6-5 lead at the intermission.
The Wolves outscored Farmingdale State by a 3-2 margin in the third period, with Kolano's second of the night coming with 7:37 to go, and Giovinco finishing off a man-up pass from Kollar with less than 10 seconds remaining to cut FSC's deficit to 9-7.
Twice in the fourth period, the Rams responded to a WestConn goal with a tally of their own to keep the game within reach. Senior midfielder
Gerardo Maldonado (W. Hempstead, N.Y.) found the scoresheet with 9:01 left, before Giovinco's man-down goal off a pass from Stock with 3:30 to go brought FSC to within an 11-9 count. The Wolves added one more goal with 2:29 remaining to hold on for the victory.
