Adam Giovinco (Syosset, N.Y.) registered a career-high five goals in today's, 13-7, victory versus Plattsburgh State on Sunday. With the win, the men's lacrosse team improved to 6-1 overall.
The game was tied 1-1 early when FSC senior midfielder
Kyle Kolano (Babylon, N.Y.) found the back of the net to go up, 2-1.
Senior
Antonio Kaminskey (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) proceeded to win three straight face offs in a 38 second span, setting up three Rams goals, as they took a 5-1 advantage heading into the second quarter. He was a perfect 7-for-7 on face offs in the first 15 minutes.
Farmingdale State continued to roll in the second quarter as Giovinco (x2) and senior midfielder
Gerardo Maldonado (West Hempstead, N.Y.) recorded goals to take a commanding 8-1 advantage.
The Cardinals (3-4) scored two of the final three goals of the half and trailed 9-3 at the break.
Plattsburgh continued the push into the third quarter with two goals in the first five minutes to cut their deficit to just four at 9-5.
FSC responded with scores by Giovinco, senior forward
Thomas Stock (Selden, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder
Amir Slaughter (North Babylon, N.Y.) to extend the advantage to 12-5 towards the end of the third quarter.
Plattsburgh outscored Farmingdale State, 2-1, in the final 15 minutes to account for the 13-7 final score. The Rams final tally came with 5:06 to play when Stock set up Giovinco for a man-up score.
Along with his five goals, Giovinco produced one assist and three ground balls. Stock finished with two goals, three assists and three GB's, while junior midfielder
Tyler Kollar (Bellport, N.Y.) recorded two goals, two assists and three ground balls. Kaminskey ended 16-for-24 on face offs with eight ground balls, one caused turnover and one goal.
On defense, freshman
Sean Lawson (Mattituck, N.Y.) tallied three caused turnovers and four ground balls, while seniors
Jonathan Flores (West Babylon, N.Y.) and
Trey Connolly (Seaford, N.Y.) and freshman
Joseph Bleck (Farmingdale, N.Y.) added two CT's apiece.
In goal, senior
Dan Erler (Smithtown, N.Y.) made 10 saves on 17 shots to earn his sixth win of the season.
