SOFTBALL SCHEDULE/RESULTS
CLERMONT, FL | The FSC softball team has played four more games down in Florida on their spring break trip, earning three victories. The Rams have two more games slated for Saturday afternoon before returning home.
Wednesday, March 13
The Rams earned a pair of extra-innings victories over North Central and Coast Guard on Wednesday afternoon.
In their first game, Farmingdale State trailed 4-1 heading into the fifth inning before scoring three runs to tie the score. They loaded the bases with one out on an
Ashley Toro (Islip, N.Y.) walk and singles from
Jenna Giliberti (Bellmore, N.Y.) and
Bailey Hammock (Port Jervis, N.Y.). After a sacrifice fly by freshman catcher
Madison Sturtz (East Islip, N.Y.) brought home Toro, RBI singles by sophomore first baseman
Samantha Stolfi (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) and senior shortstop
Angelina Capuano (Sayville, N.Y.) knotted the game at 4-4.
The game remained 4-4 into extra-innings with North Central scoring the runner from second to go ahead, 5-4.
In the bottom of the eighth, junior
Ava Shorr (North Babylon, N.Y.) led off with a walk and freshman
Anna Rahner (Islip, N.Y.) reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases with none out. Two batters later, Giliberti singled to drive in the tying run. Hammock was next and hit a walk-off single to score Rahner and clinch the 6-5 extra-innings victory.
Hammock finished with three hits, one RBI and one run scored, while Giliberti and Capuano recorded two hits, one RBI and one run apiece.
Senior pitcher
Allie Stanya (Babylon, N.Y.) earned the victory on the mound after tossing a complete game with four strike outs.
In their second game of the day, Farmingdale State earned a 4-3 win over the United States Coast Guard Academy in eight innings behind a complete game by Shorr.
The Rams scored runs in the second, third and fourth innings on a Shorr sacrifice, a Capuano fielder's choice and a single by Sturtz to go up, 3-0.
The Bears trailed 3-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh but scored a pair of two-out runs to knot the score. FSC threw out a potential winning run at the plate to send the game into extra innings.
Farmingdale State scored the runner from second base after a single by Hammock and a wild pitch to go ahead, 4-3.
After a sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the eighth moved the Coast Guard runner to third, FSC nabbed them trying to score on a ground out in the next at-bat to maintain the lead. Shorr forced the next batter to fly out as the Rams held on for the 4-3 victory.
Giliberti registered a hit and two runs scored and Toro ended with a pair of hits. Sturtz reached base twice on one hit and one walk in the win.
Thursday, March 14
Farmingdale State opened play on Thursday with a 4-3 win over St. Mary's (Ind.) College.
The Rams jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the third inning. Rahner singled to start the inning and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and a ground out. Hammock batted next and tallied an RBI single to give FSC the lead. Hammock would then steal second base and score on back-to-back passed balls to go up, 2-0.
Farmingdale State added another run in the fourth on a Toro single, but a three-run fifth allowed the Belles to tie the score at 3-3.
In the top of the seventh, Rahner singled to left field and quickly moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Stanya. Giliberti followed with an RBI single to give the Rams the 4-3 advantage.
Shorr entered the game to pitch in the bottom of the inning, and after loading the bases with two outs, forced a ground out to secure the 4-3 win for FSC and the first save of her career.
Giliberti went 2-for-3 with a walk and one run batted in, while Rahner was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Hammock finished with two hits, one run scored and one run batted in.
Stanya earned the victory after six innings on the mound with no earned runs.
FSC played UMass-Dartmouth in their second game on Thursday and fell, 2-1.
The Rams had just one hit through five innings and trailed 2-0 before scratching across a run in the sixth on a single by Capuano and a fielder's choice ground out by Shorr.
The Corsairs were held scoreless in the top of the seventh, but Kaitlyn Shirshac set FSC down in order in the bottom of the inning to earn the 2-1 win.
Hammock and Capuano produced one hit each in the loss.
