PURCHASE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State men's basketball team saw their historic winning streak end at 17 games as Skyline opponent Manhattanville earned a 76-72 come-from-behind victory on Saturday afternoon. FSC, who clinched the #1 seed for the upcoming playoffs on Wednesday night, fell for just the second time this season and are now 21-2 overall.Â
The Rams (13-1 Skyline) led 8-6 early before layups by senior forward
Nick Hurowitz (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) and junior forward
James Cosgrove (Franklin Square, N.Y.) pushed the advantage to six.
After a 3 by the Valiants (16-7, 9-5 Skyline), two free-throws by Hurowitz and a jumper Cosgrove extended the lead to seven, 16-9.
FSC took a nine-point lead, 22-13, with 10 minutes on the clock following a three-point play by senior forward
Jovayne Walters (Cambria Heights, N.Y.).
Still down nine, 30-21, the Valiants went on a quick 7-2 run to close within four, but a 3-pointer by Hurowitz pushed the FSC advantage back to seven.
FSC led by six, 40-34, at the break as Hurowitz had 13 first-half points.
Farmingdale State opened the second half with a layup by senior guard
Aaron Davis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and a 3-pointer by senior guard
Jevon Santos (Elmont, N.Y.)Â to increase the lead to 11, 45-34.
The Valiants answered with five straight free-throws and a layup to close within four at 45-41.
Manhattanville trailed 52-48 with 12:48 to play before a pair of free-throws and a 3-pointer gave them their first lead of the game, 53-52.
The Valiants extended the advantage to three, but FSC responded with a Davis 3-pointer to quickly tie the score.
On the next possession, MVL tallied a layup to go up 57-55 and would not relinquish the lead. They followed with a 7-1 run to go ahead by eight, 64-56.Â
The Rams were down 10, 70-60, with 3:30 remaining and used two layups from senior guard
Corey Powell (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and a pair of free-throws by Hurowitz to close within four.
With 44 seconds to play, Farmingdale State cut the deficit to just two points, 74-72, on a layup by sophomore guard
Michael Notias (Manhasset, N.Y.).Â
Following a timeout, the Valiants registered a layup with 22 seconds on the clock to go up, 76-72.Â
FSC missed at the other end, before fouling with five seconds remaining. MVL missed on a 1-and-1 attempt, but the Rams ran out of time as Manhattanville earned the 76-72 victory.
Hurowitz led the Rams with 19 points and six rebounds, while both Powell and Notias produced 11 points apiece. Santos recorded nine points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals and Davis finished with eight points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals.Â
Andrew Saint-Louis and Ryan Giordano had 26 and 20 points, respectively, in the win for Manhattanville.
The Rams next host Skyline opponent Maritime on Tuesday, February 13th at 8:00 p.m. on Senior Night.
