Men's Basketball Downed at Wesleyan (Conn.)

Wesleyan 77, Farmingdale State 62
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. | A late second-half run lifted host Wesleyan University to a 77-62 victory on Saturday afternoon versus the Farmingdale State College men's basketball team.

The visiting Rams (2-4) led by a 19-12 score 8:25 into the contest, with junior guard Michael Notias (Manhasset, N.Y.) and sophomore forward Kentrell Evans (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scoring eight and seven points out of the gate, respectively. The Cardinals (6-0) – who are receiving votes in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 poll – responded with a 16-5 spread to go ahead 28-24 with 5:12 left until halftime. FSC notched six of the next eight points, with a step-back jumper from junior Sean Conroy (Staten Island, N.Y.) knotting the score at 30-all, before Wesleyan carried a 35-32 lead into the locker room at the break.

After five straight points by Notias cut the visitors' deficit to 39-37 four minutes into the second period, the Cardinals scored eight of the next 10 points to push their edge back to double figures, 49-39, with 11:08 remaining. Farmingdale State twice cut the deficit to four points, including when a 3-pointer by senior point guard Jevon Santos (Elmont, N.Y.) brought the Rams to within a 53-49 count at the 8:09 mark. From there, Wesleyan took control by knocking down trifectas in their next three possessions to spark the game-deciding 17-4 run.

Notias led all players with 21 points on 8-of-16 shooting and a 5-of-9 display from beyond the 3-point arc, marking his third 20-point game in the Rams' last four contests. Santos (game-high-tying five assists) and Conroy chipped in with 11 points apiece, while Evans finished with seven points and a game-best 10 rebounds.

Farmingdale State next opens up Skyline Conference play on Saturday (Dec. 7), when the two-time defending champions travel to Throggs Neck, N.Y., for a 1 p.m. tip-off at Maritime College.
