Farmingdale State Holds Off NJCU for Non-Conference Win

Farmingdale State - 79, New Jersey City - 73
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The FSC men's basketball team welcomed New Jersey City University for a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon and earned a 79-73 non-conference victory. The Rams improved to 2-2 on the season, while the Gothic Knights dropped to 3-2 overall.

The score was tied at 26-26 just over 13 minutes in before the Rams used baskets from guards Jordan Tucker (Elmont, N.Y.) and Michael Notias (Manhasset, N.Y.) to go up by four.

After a layup by NJCU, a Jovayne Walters (Cambria Heights, N.Y.) layup and a 3-pointer by junior guard Sean Conroy (Staten Island, N.Y.) put FSC ahead, 35-28, with three minutes on the clock.

Farmingdale State held a 38-35 advantage in the final minute and closed the half with a Conroy 3-pointer as they took a 41-35 lead into the break.

Over the first five minutes of the second half, the Gothic Knights cut their deficit to three, 45-42.

The Rams answered with a pair of layups by sophomore guard Derek Reed (Shinnecock, N.Y.) and a two jumpers by Conroy to go ahead by 11, 53-42.

With 5:41 remaining and FSC in front by nine, 67-58, a quick 7-1 run by NJCU closed the gap to only three at 68-65.

The Gothic Knights trailed by just two points, 72-70, with a minute to play, but four consecutive points by senior forward Hamdel Mohammed (Bronx, N.Y.) allowed the Rams to regain a six-point advantage.

FSC made three free-throws in the final 34 seconds as they went on for the 79-73 victory.

Notias led the Rams with 22 points on 8-for-14 shooting, while Conroy made five field goals and five free-throws for 17 points. Walters produced 10 points and eight rebounds and Reed registered 10 points, three rebounds and two steals off the bench. Tucker recorded eight points and five rebounds and both Mohammed and Santos finished with six points apiece in the win.
