Volleyball Earns Shutout Over Maritime on Senior Night

Farmingdale State 3, Maritime 0 (25-17, 25-12, 26-24)
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College volleyball team celebrated five student-athletes on "Senior Night" in grand style on Friday, as the Rams captured a 3-0 Skyline Conference victory over visiting Maritime College (25-17, 25-12, 26-24).

Prior to first serve, FSC (12-7, 6-2 Skyline) held a ceremony to recognize its senior class: Molly Miller (East Northport, N.Y.); Jada Pepanio (East Meadow, N.Y.); Mikayla Profeta (West Islip, N.Y.); Jenya Surlin (East Meadow, N.Y.); and Lana Ventura (Port Washington, N.Y.). The Rams also presented sophomore setter Sarah Rende (Wantagh, N.Y.) with a commemorative ball, recognizing her for recently surpassing the 1,000 career assists milestone.

In the match, Farmingdale State posted eight and 13-point victories in the first two sets, respectively, before battling back from a 22-15 lead by the Privateers (5-19, 2-7) in the third frame to close out the match in extra time with an 11-2 run. Five straight service points by freshman outside hitter Samantha Russo (Bay Shore, N.Y.) pulled the home side to within a 22-21 score, before a pair of Maritime attack errors and a service ace by FSC sophomore Stephanie Nemecek (Farmingdale, N.Y.) gave her team match point at 24-23. Maritime picked up a side out on the next serve, before a Privateers error put the Rams back in front, 25-24. From there, Ventura provided the winning set to junior outside hitter Delaney Keegan (Lake Grove, N.Y.), who floored her fifth kill of the night to finish off the Farmingdale State victory.

Russo led all players with 12.5 points, as she registered eight kills, 11 digs and four of FSC's 15 service aces on the night. Rende provided five aces and kills, 14 assists and seven digs, while Miller (two block assists) and Ventura (10 digs) passed five assists apiece to aid a Rams squad that hit .170 on the evening. Nemecek and junior middle Lauren Offermann (North Babylon, N.Y.) were in on three total blocks apiece, with Keegan and Surlin each assisting on a pair.

Farmingdale State is back in Skyline action Saturday afternoon (Nov. 2), when it plays host to its home regular-season finale at 1 versus St. Joseph's-Brooklyn.
