Farmingdale State - 4, Purchase - 2
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The FSC men's soccer team outshot Purchase College 32-7 on Wednesday afternoon, securing a 4-2 Skyline Conference victory. The Rams improved to 6-5-3 overall and 3-2-2 in conference play with the win.
Farmingdale State hosted its second annual 'Salute to Veterans' match, welcoming three veterans from the Northport VA Medical Center to Nold Hall. A special pregame ceremony honored Richard Bass, Dennis Cudahy and Nick Piazza as the
Veterans of the Game.
The Rams came out quick, hitting the post on their third shot of the match before senior forward
Olvin Yanes (Selden, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal, giving FSC a 1-0 lead.
Tied 1-1 with 19 minutes to play before halftime, Rams' senior defender
Daniel Rivas (Westbury, N.Y.) executed a perfect throw-in down the right sideline. Junior forward
Tyree Baskin Jr. (Freeport, N.Y.) received the throw and sent a pass across the six-yard box to senior midfielder
Anthony Bileddo (Carle Place, N.Y.), who found the back of the net to put the Rams ahead, 2-1.
Over the final six minutes of the half, the Rams put four shots on goal, but were unable to extend their lead.
Only 14 minutes into the second half, Bileddo recovered a loose ball 20 yards out and buried his second goal of the match to the top right of the net to give Farmingdale State a 3-1 advantage.
Sophomore
Ever Benitez (Bay Shore, N.Y.) capped off the FSC scoring with a late goal off an assist from classmate
Bryce Cherry (Amityville, N.Y.) as they went on for the 4-2 win.
Senior goalkeeper
Jabari Dennis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) (W, 1-0) earned the win in his first start of 2024, while Jack Gjokaj took the loss despite making 11 saves for Purchase.
Bileddo, the reigning Offensive Player of the Year, now has seven goals this season and ranks fourth in the Skyline Conference.
The Rams will next play host to the University of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday, October 12th at 2:30 p.m.
