FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Three different goal scorers in the first half powered the Farmingdale State College men's soccer team past Skyline Conference foe University of Mount Saint Vincent, 3-0.
The Rams (7-5-3, 4-2-2 Skyline)Â opened the scoring just over eight minutes in, when sophomore midfielder
Jose Mejia (Guatemala City, Guatemala) lined up a free kick from 22 yards away and buried his first goal of the season inside the right-hand post to put his side ahead for good over the Dolphins (8-5-2, 3-4).
FSC's other defensive midfielder, sophomore
Sebastian Monroy (Brentwood, N.Y.), notched his first career goal in the 22nd minute of action. With play scrambled at the center circle following build-up passing by the hosts, Monroy broke free from everybody and went in alone on the UMSV keeper, slotting home into the left side of the goal to double the Rams' advantage.
Then, 54 seconds before the halftime break, another breakaway from the midfield stripe pushed the Farmingdale State edge to 3-0 by the interval. Senior
Anthony Bileddo (Carle Place, N.Y.) created a turnover in the center circle, and sent a diagonal pass to the left-hand side to freshman winger
Jean Mejia (Freeport, N.Y.). The speedster had no defenders in front of him, and left-footed his sixth goal of the season after entering the penalty area.
The Rams' defense maintained a clean sheet on the afternoon, including an eight-save effort in net from sophomore goalie
Anthony Martinez (Bay Shore, N.Y.), as the home team became one of five Skyline institutions with at least 14 points in the conference standings.Â
Farmingdale State's regular-season, non-conference slate wraps up on Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 16), when they travel to Haverford College for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
