Women's Tennis Narrowly Falls at Manhattanville; Rams No. 2 Seed in Skyline Championship

Manhattanville 4, Farmingdale State 3
PURCHASE, N.Y. | In a battle of unbeaten teams in the Skyline Conference and the regular-season finale for both sides, the Farmingdale State College women's tennis team narrowly fell Saturday at defending champion Manhattanville University, 4-3.

Both teams will take part in next week's 2024 Skyline Conference Women's Tennis Championship; the Valiants (11-1, 6-0 Skyline) will serve as the top seed of the four-team field, while the Rams (10-5, 5-1) are the second seed and will play host to third-seeded Purchase College on Wednesday (Oct. 30) at 4:30 p.m. The championship final will take place next Saturday (Nov. 2) at the highest-remaining seed.

Manhattanville went ahead by the score of 1-0 after securing two of the three doubles matches; FSC's victory came in the third flight, when juniors MacKenzie Gisler (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and Mikayla DeMaria (West Babylon, N.Y.) downed the Valiants' Sara King and Maria Gutierrez, 6-1.

In singles play, Rams junior Gabriella Loria (Levittown, N.Y.) pushed her record to 13-1 on the season and an unblemished in six Skyline matches, by virtue of her 6-2, 6-3 win in the fifth flight versus King. Senior Lien Collings (Merrick, N.Y.) also wrapped up regular-season conference action with a 6-0 mark, as she registered a 6-3, 6-1 triumph in the No. 1 position against the Valiants' Amaya Ortiz. Gisler rounded out FSC's singles victories, as she outlasted Addison Ortiz in the fourth flight, 6-2 and 7-6 (7-5).
