FARMINGDALE, N.Y. |Â Farmingdale State College clinched a spot in the four-team 2024 Skyline Conference Women's Tennis Championship on Friday, as the Rams blanked visiting Mount Saint Mary College, 7-0.
FSC (7-4, 4-0 Skyline) went ahead 1-0 by virtue of its sweep of the three doubles matches against the Knights (4-7, 1-4), including a 6-0 shutout in the top flight by sophomore
Natalia Furchel (Manorville, N.Y.) and junior
Amanda Jones (Mastic Beach, N.Y.). The hosts' No. 3 tandem of juniors
MacKenzie Gisler (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and
Mikayla DeMaria (West Babylon, N.Y.) pushed past their MSMC counterparts by a 6-4 margin, before senior
Lien Collings (Merrick, N.Y.) and junior
Gabriella Loria (Levittown, N.Y.) teamed up in the second slot for a 6-3 decision.
All six Farmingdale State singles players captured straight-set victories, with Collings first into the scorebook with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph in the top flight. DeMaria (6-1, 6-0) and Loria (6-2, 6-1) followed suit in the sixth and fifth spots, respectively, clinching the team match for the Rams in the process. Jones carded a 6-1, 6-2 decision at No. 3, before Gisler moved to 9-2 on the year in the fourth flight with a 6-1, 6-4 victory. Furchel rounded out the Rams' win at the No. 2 position, registering set scores of 6-4 and 6-2.
FSC will next play host to non-conference foe Brooklyn College on Tuesday (Oct. 15), in a 4:30 p.m. first serve. Prior to the match, the Rams will honor Collings and
Luisa Valencia (Huntington, N.Y.) in a Senior Day ceremony.
