Mikayla Profeta (West Islip, N.Y.) produced a season-high 17 kills on a .444 hitting percentage to lead the Farmingdale State women's volleyball team past Old Westbury, 3-1, on Tuesday night. Profeta recorded a match-high 19.5 points to help the Rams earn their third consecutive win.
After the Panthers (3-4, 1-1 Skyline) narrowly defeated FSC (7-4, 1-0 Skyline) in the opening set, 25-23, the Rams cruised to 25-17 and 25-13 victories in the next two sets to take a 2-1 advantage.
Farmingdale State trailed 11-8 early in the fourth set, but responded with nine of the next 11 points to take a 17-13 edge. They did not relinquish the lead as they picked up a 25-17 win to clinch the match, 3-1.
Along with her 17 kills, Profeta recorded two assists, one service ace, five digs and two blocks. Junior outside
Delaney Keegan (Lake Grove, N.Y.) tallied a double-double with 15 digs and 11 kills, while freshman outside
Samantha Russo (Bay Shore, N.Y.) produced eight kills, one ace and nine digs. Sophomore setter
Sarah Rende (Wantagh, N.Y.) chipped in with five kills (.500 attacking percentage), 35 assists, two aces and 10 digs and sophomore middle blocker
Stephanie Nemecek (Farmingdale, N.Y.) added five kills and three block assists in the win.
OW's Stephanie Maser had 15 kills and 19 digs in defeat.
The women's volleyball team will next play host to Skyline Conference opponent Purchase College on Thursday, October 3rd at 6:00 p.m.
