Corey Powell (Valley Stream, N.Y.) knocked down a game-winning 3-pointer to secure a 73-72 victory at Skyline opponent St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the FSC men's basketball team improved to 12-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
In an evenly played first half, the game was tied at 27-27 before a 3-pointer put the Bears (2-11, 1-3 Skyline) in front. FSC followed with three consecutive baskets to give them a 33-30 halftime advantage.
Farmingdale State led 40-38 just five minutes into the second half and used a trio of layups from senior forward
Nick Hurowitz (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) to go in front by eight at 46-38.
Over the next four minutes, a 14-4 run by SJ-BK gave them a 52-50 lead with eight minutes to play.
St. Joseph's-Brooklyn still held a two-point edge at 62-60 with 1:59 remaining. The Rams were fouled on a 1-and-1 on the next possession, but a miss allowed the Bears to grab the rebound and hit a 3 to go up by five with 1:14 left.

Aaron Davis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) knocked down a 3-pointer to close within two, 65-63.
Farmingdale State forced a miss on the other end and grabbed the rebound before calling another timeout.
In the final seconds of regulation, freshman forward
Kentrell Evans (Brooklyn, N.Y.) grabbed an offensive rebound and tied the score with a layup as the game headed into overtime knotted at 65-65.
In overtime, Evans opened the scoring with a pair of free-throws, but the Bears quickly responded with a jumper make it 67-67.
In their next two possessions, FSC used a Powell free-throw and layup from senior guard
Jevon Santos (Elmont, N.Y.) to take a 3-point advantage, 69-66.
With 1:48 on the clock, a 3-pointer by SJ-BK's Alex Macheras tied the game at 69-69.
The Bears took their first lead of OT with 36 seconds left as a Max Butler layup put them ahead, 72-70.
Just 11 seconds later, Powell knocked down the game-winning 3-pointer to put the Rams on top, 73-72.
In the final moments of the contest, the Rams committed three personal fouls and left St. Joe's with just two seconds on the clock for an inbound play.
The Bears missed on their final attempt at the buzzer as Farmingdale State picked up the 73-72 victory.
Hurowitz finished with a game-high 22 points, while Evans produced career-high's with 17 points, 11 rebounds and three steals. Powell, who played 40 minutes, registered 12 points and three rebounds. Davis tallied 11 points, four rebounds and two assists and Santos had nine points, seven rebounds and three assists in the win.
The men's basketball team will next return home to play Skyline Conference opponent Purchase College on Wednesday, January 10th at 7:00 p.m.
