FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State men's basketball team improved to 13-1 on the season with a 104-74 Skyline Conference victory over Purchase College on Wednesday evening.
Tied 9-9 early in the first half, FSC (5-0 Skyline) went on a 15-0 run, including a pair of 3's by senior guard
Aaron Davis (Valley Stream, N.Y.), to jump in front 24-9 with 11:47 on the clock.
The Rams led 31-16 and extended their lead to 21 with two free-throws apiece by seniors
Corey Powell (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and
Nick Hurowitz (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) and a layup by senior forward
Jovayne Walters (Cambria Heights, N.Y.).
Following a layup by the Panthers (8-6, 2-3 Skyline), a Hurowitz basket,
Kentrell Evans (Brooklyn, N.Y.) layup and Davis 3-pointer gave FSC a commanding 44-18 advantage with 4:56 to play in the first half.
Farmingdale State took a 52-32 lead into the break behind 19 points from Hurowitz.
FSC held a 74-50 lead with 13 minutes remaining and used free-throws by freshman forward
Liam Buckley (Manhasset, N.Y.) and sophomore guard
Michael Notias (Manhasset, N.Y.) and five points from senior guard
Kobe Thomas (Hicksville, N.Y.) to go up by 33, 83-50.
After a jumper by Purchase, a 16-5 run allowed the Rams to take their largest lead of the game at 99-57 with 5:53 left.
Farmingdale State added five points down the stretch as they went on for the 104-74 win.
Hurowtiz led all scorers with 22 points, while Davis had 18 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Notias recorded 12 points in 13 minutes played and Thomas produced 11 points in nine minutes played. Senior guard
Jevon Santos (Elmont, N.Y.) registered 10 points, four rebounds and four assists. He now sits at 316 career assists and is just four shy of setting the program record. Powell filled the stat sheet with nine points, six rebounds, eight assists and one steal. Evans added six points and seven rebounds and senior guard
Kamani Jones (Baldwin, N.Y.) produced five points and two assists in the victory.
The men's basketball team will next travel to Maritime College for a Skyline Conference game on Saturday, January 13th at 1:00 p.m.
