Hurowitz Career-High Sends Men's Basketball to 13th-Straight Victory

Farmingdale State - 92; Mount Saint Vincent - 78
RIVERDALE, N.Y. | Senior swingman Nick Hurowitz (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) scored a career-high 33 points Wednesday night, sending the Farmingdale State College men's basketball team to its 13th-straight win with a 92-78 decision at the University of Mount Saint Vincent in Skyline Conference play.

The Rams' (17-1, 9-0 Skyline) winning streak is now tied for the third-longest in school history, with 13-straight triumphs also being run off by head coach Brendan Twomey's side during the 2016-17 season.

Hurowitz, who joined the 1,000 career points club one week ago, was 14-of-18 shooting from the field -- including a 5-of-7 display from 3-point range. He also picked up his fourth double-double of the season, leading all players with 13 rebounds on the evening. Hurowitz's 14 made field goals set a career-high, as the senior previously netted 10 shots from the floor on three separate occasions.

FSC led wire-to-wire against the host Dolphins (7-12, 5-4), with Hurowitz knocking down a trey 15 seconds in to start an 8-0 run. The Rams scored 16 of the first 19 points of the contest, before Mount Saint Vincent pulled to within a 29-24 margin with 6:17 remaining in the first half. Sophomore point guard Michael Notias (Manhasset, N.Y.) stopped the Dolphins' push with a jump shot in Farmingdale State's next offensive possession, before the visitors incrementally built their lead to 47-30 at halftime after senior guard Corey Powell (Valley Stream, N.Y.) buried a 3-pointer seconds before the buzzer sounded.

A pair of second-half spurts by the Rams put the game out of reach. An 8-0 spread five minutes into the resumption of play pushed Farmingdale State ahead, 62-36. Hurowitz hit two shots from downtown during the run, with the efforts sandwiching a pair of free throws from classmate and shooting guard Aaron Davis (Valley Stream, N.Y.). The Dolphins cut their deficit to 20 points (73-53) with 11:12 left, before the Rams scored nine unanswered points to push their lead to 82-53 when freshman Liam Buckley (Manhasset, N.Y.) laid home a cross-block feed from senior post Jovayne Walters (Cambria Hts., N.Y.) with 8:29 to go. The 29-point advantage was the largest of the night, as FSC cruised to victory.

Powell (7-of-11 FG, 3-of-4 3FG) and Notias (5-of-9 FG) scored 17 and 12 points, respectively, while Davis scored seven points and handed out a game-high seven assists. Buckley and fellow rookie Kentrell Evans (Brooklyn, N.Y.) each netted six points, with Evans pulling down 12 boards to help FSC hold a decisive 53-31 advantage on the glass.

Farmingdale State returns home in Skyline Conference play on Saturday (Jan. 27), when it plays host to St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn at 2 p.m. Prior the contest, the team will hold its annual Alumni Day festivities, with an alumni game getting underway at 11 a.m.
