Farmingdale State - 90, St. Joseph's-Brooklyn - 70
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State men's basketball team earned their 14th straight victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating St. Joseph's-Brooklyn, 90-70, to improve to 18-1 on the season and a perfect 10-0 in Skyline play.
Today was Alumni Day at FSC as past players returned for an alumni game, delicious food and to support the current team.
The Rams led 23-22 with 5:18 to play in the first half and extended their advantage to eight with a 3-pointer by senior forward
Nick Hurowitz (Mount Sinai, N.Y.), a layup by freshman forward
Kentrell Evans (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and two free-throws.Â
The Bears (4-15, 3-7 Skyline) still trailed by eight, 35-27, with 1:10 on the clock but used a 3-pointer to cut their deficit to five.Â
FSC followed with a pull-up jumper by senior guard
Aaron Davis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and a layup by junior forward
James Cosgrove (Franklin Square, N.Y.) as they took a 39-30 advantage into the halftime break.
Farmingdale State opened the second half on an 8-2 run, including 3's by Davis and Hurowitz, to push their lead to 15 at 47-32.
After St. Joseph's-Brooklyn cut it to just eight, 57-49, with 11:30 remaining, a Davis jumper and a 3-pointer by sophomore guard
Michael Notias (Manhasset, N.Y.) allowed the Rams to regain a 13-point advantage.
The Rams held a 62-52 lead with 9:33 on the clock and used a 13-2 run over the next three minutes to take a commanding 75-54 lead.
FSC led by as many as 25 down the stretch as they earned the 90-70 victory.
Davis led all scorers with 16 points, to go along with five assists. Senior guard
Corey Powell (Valley Stream, N.Y.) tallied 12 points, six rebounds, and five assists, while Hurowitz recorded 12 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks. Notias was 4-for-4 from behind the arc and finished with 12 points and four assists off the bench. Senior guard
Jevon Santos (Elmont, N.Y.) had 11 points and four assists and Evans produced six points and 10 rebounds. Seniors
Jovayne Walters (Cambria Heights, N.Y.) and
Kobe Thomas (Hicksville, N.Y.) added six and five points, respectively, in the win.
Farmingdale State next heads on the road to play Skyline opponent Merchant Marine on Tuesday, January 30th at 7:00 p.m.
