PURCHASE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State women's basketball team traveled to Mahattanville College on Saturday afternoon and fell by a score of 90-59.
FSC (5-9, 3-6 Skyline) trailed 9-6 early in the first quarter before sophomore guard
Victoria Kantzian (Staten Island, N.Y.) hit a 3-pointer to tie the game. The Valiants (11-3, 8-1 Skyline) responded by closing the quarter with 12 straight points to take a 21-9 lead into the second.
The Rams opened the second quarter with a 3-pointer and layup by sophomore guard
Adrianna Romo-Leroux (Selden, N.Y.) to quickly cut their deficit to seven.
Farmingdale State trailed by six, 32-26, with only 1:32 on the clock and used a 3-pointer by freshman forward
Taneece Wooden (Freeport, N.Y.) and a three-point play by freshman guard
Mia Simmons (Jamaica, N.Y.) to knot the score at 32-32 heading into the break.
Simmons opened the third quarter with a 3-pointer as FSC took their first lead of the game at 35-32. After a miss by Manhattanville, back-to-back layups by Wooden and Simmons gave the Rams a seven-point advantage.
Over the final eight minutes of the quarter, the Valiants held Farmingdale State to only four points and went ahead 55-43.
Manhattanville scored 35 fourth-quarter points as they went on for the 90-59 Skyline Conference victory.
Wooden recorded her sixth double-double of the season, finishing with a team-high 16 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Kantzian knocked down a trio of 3's off the bench and tallied 11 points, while Simmons, junior guard
Gemma Pohalski (Huntington, N.Y.) and senior forward
Layla Mendoza (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) had eight points apiece.
The Rams next return home to play Skyline opponent Mount Saint Vincent on Tuesday, January 16th at 5:30 p.m.
