Kentrell Evans (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded 14 points and a career-high 15 rebounds to lead the Farmingdale State men's basketball team to an 84-66 victory at Maritime on Saturday. The Rams improved to 14-1 overall and a perfect 6-0 in Skyline Conference play with the win.
FSC came out quick, scoring the first 14 points in the opening 5:06 of play. Senior guard
Jevon Santos (Elmont, N.Y.) hit a 3 before two free-throws and a layup from senior forward
Nick Hurowitz (Mount Sinai, N.Y.). Evans followed with a putback layup and senior guard
Aaron Davis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) knocked down a 3 to give Farmingdale State a 12-0 advantage. Evans closed the run with another offensive rebound and layup to put the Rams on top by 14.
The Privateers (9-6, 4-2 Skyline) got on the board with 13:48 on the clock, but FSC followed with nine straight points to take a commanding 23-2 lead.
Farmingdale State led 29-9 with just over eight minutes to play in the half and used a
Michael Notias (Manhasset, N.Y.) 3-pointer and five points from Hurowtiz to go ahead by 28.
The Rams held a 46-18 advantage at the break and opened the second half with a 3 by Davis to go up by 31.
Over the next nine minutes, a 28-9 run by Maritime closed the gap to just 12 at 58-46.
FSC responded with nine unanswered points, featuring a 3-pointer by freshman forward
Liam Buckley (Manhasset, N.Y.) and baskets from senior guard
Corey Powell (Valley Stream, N.Y.), Notias and Evans, to regain a 21-point edge, 67-46, with 8:38 remaining.
Farmingdale State maintained at least a 14-point lead down the stretch as they went on for the 84-66 victory.
Evans shot 7-for-9 from the field and had eight offensive rebounds en route to his double-double. Davis finished with a team-high 17 points, while Hurowitz notched 16 points and seven rebounds. Notias was 6-for-7 from the floor and 2-for-2 from behind the arc for 14 points off the bench and Santos registered eight points, four rebounds, two assists and three steals. Powell recorded four points, a career-best 11 rebounds and six assists, while Buckley hit a pair of 3's for six points.
The Rams held a 54-29 advantage in rebounds for the game. They currently rank 3rd in the Nation for rebounding margin (11.3).
Farmingdale State will next play host to Sarah Lawrence for a conference game on Tuesday, January 16th at 8:00 p.m.
