Nick Hurowitz (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) and
Corey Powell (Valley Stream, N.Y.) reached the 1,000 career-point milestone on Tuesday night, while classmate
Jevon Santos (Elmont, N.Y.) set the Farmingdale State College career assist record in the Rams' 96-49 victory against Sarah Lawrence College on Tuesday night.
Santos now has 320 career assists at FSC (15-1, 7-0 Skyline Conference), surpassing the previous all-time record of 319 held by Damien Santana since 2009.
Hurowitz and Powell became the eighth and ninth 1,000 point-scorers in school history at the 18:30 and 7:47 marks of the second half, respectively. Powell (career-high 33 points) accomplished the feat in 97 games, while Hurowitz (18 points) achieved it in 81.
The Rams held a 23-19 advantage just over 10 minutes into play and closed the first half on a 17-4 run to take a 40-23 advantage into the break.
Powell led all scorers with 12 points in the first 20 minutes.
After Sarah Lawrence (6-10, 3-4 Skyline) opened the second half with a bucket, Powell knocked down a 3-pointer and Hurowitz followed with two free-throws as he reached the 1,000-point mark.
Leading 55-32 with 14:12 remaining, Powell and Hurowitz hit back-to-back 3's before Santos registered his record-breaking assist on a fast break (to Hurowitz) to put the Rams in front by 31.
Farmingdale State took a 35-point lead at 70-35 and went on an 11-0 run, capped by Powell's milestone 1,000th point on a 3-pointer put the Rams on top, 83-35.
The Rams tallied 13 more points down the stretch as they earned the 96-49 victory.
Powell notched 21 of his 33 points in the second-half, shooting 7-for-7 from the floor, including 5-for-5 from 3-point range. Overall, he shot 12-for-15 from the floor, to go along with six rebounds and two assists. Hurowtiz notched his 18 points on four made field goals, including a trio of 3's, and 7-for-8 at the foul line. Jovayne Walters (Cambria Heights, N.Y.) added nine points and seven rebounds off the bench, while senior guard
Aaron Davis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) had four points and a career-best eight assists.
The FSC men's basketball team will next play host to St. Joseph's-Long Island for a Skyline Conference game on Saturday, January 20th at 2:30 p.m.
