Farmingdale State - 5, Manhattanville - 4
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State women's tennis team edged out a 5-4 Skyline Conference win over Manhattanville on Wednesday evening. The Rams improved to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while the Valiants fell to 2-2, 0-1.
FSC picked up two-of-three points in doubles competition. After Manhattanville's Bea Pretnar and Keto Karkashadze earned an 8-2 win in the first position, sophomores
Amanda Jones (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) and
MacKenzie Gisler (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) won second doubles, 8-6, while sophomoresÂ
Mikayla DeMaria (West Babylon, N.Y.) and
Gabriella Loria (Levittown, N.Y.) recorded an 8-4 decision in the third slot.
The Rams and Valiants each picked up a point early in singles play as FSC held a 3-2 lead. Loria captured fifth singles, 6-0, 6-0, before Manhattanville's Suzanna Doyle tallied a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the #3 position.
Farmingdale State clinched the match with wins in the #6 and #4 spots as DeMaria (6-3, 6-0) and Gisler (6-1, 6-2) each earned wins.
Manhattanville followed with points in the first (6-1, 6-4) and second (7-6 (8-6), 6-4) singles matches to account for the 5-4 final score.
Gisler and Loria have led FSC to its four-match winning streak, each going a perfect 4-0 in doubles and 4-0 in singles over the span.
Farmingdale State will next play host to non-conference opponent Brooklyn College tomorrow, Thursday, September 28th at 4:30 p.m.
